Auditions open

BATS Antwerp is delighted to announce auditions for our 2026/27 pantomime, Cinderella!

 

Whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, we'd love to see you. We're looking for performers of all ages to help bring this magical family pantomime to life.​

Auditions dates​

Please attend one of the following audition sessions:

  • Tuesday 1 September – 8:00 pm

  • Saturday 5 September – 11:00 am

  • Tuesday 8 September – 8:00 pm

What to prepare?​

Please prepare a short monologue (approximately one minute) that best showcases your acting ability.

​

If you are auditioning for any role that requires singing, please also prepare a 30-second excerpt of a song, performed a cappella (without backing track or accompaniment). Choose something that best demonstrates your vocal ability and suits the style of the role.

​

You are welcome to audition for more than one role.

Roles

FAIRY GODMOTHER​

  1. Playing Age: Adult 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting

  3. The magical heart of the story. Warm, witty and full of charm, the Fairy Godmother guides Cinderella with kindness and a playful sense of humour. She should command the stage effortlessly, balancing elegance with comic timing and audience interaction. While often portrayed as slightly matronly, this version should radiate warmth, sparkle and genuine fun.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Excellent stage presence

    • Strong comic timing

    • Comfortable with audience interaction

DANDINI​

  1. Playing Age: Adult 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting, Singing & Dance

  3. The Prince's loyal valet and closest confidant. Intelligent, quick-thinking and endlessly entertaining, Dandini often finds himself caught up in royal chaos. A charismatic performer with excellent comic timing and strong chemistry with the Prince.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Excellent comic actor

    • Strong singer

    • Confident dancer/mover

    • Energetic stage presence

PRINCE CHARMING​

  1. Playing Age: Adult

  3. Our heroic Principal Boy. Charming, adventurous and sincere, the Prince is searching for genuine love rather than status. This role requires a confident all-round performer with charisma and strong musical ability.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Strong actor

    • Strong singer

    • Confident dancer

    • Excellent stage presence

BUTTONS​

  1. Playing Age: Adult

  3. The audience's favourite! Loveable, loyal, optimistic and secretly in love with Cinderella. Buttons delivers much of the show's comedy while also providing genuine heart and emotion.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Outstanding comic actor

    • Excellent audience rapport

    • Strong improvisation skills

    • Ability to balance comedy with vulnerability

CINDERELLA​

  1. Playing Age: Adult

  3. Kind, resilient and hopeful, Cinderella remains positive despite life's hardships. A warm and sincere leading performer with excellent chemistry and strong vocal ability.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Strong actress

    • Confident mover/dancer

    • Warm, engaging stage presence

THE BARONESS​

  1. Playing Age: Adult 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting, Singing 

  3. Elegant, glamorous and delightfully wicked. The Baroness is determined to see one of her daughters marry Prince Charming. Larger-than-life, dramatic and deliciously villainous, this role is packed with comedy.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Strong comic actress

    • Confident singer, raspy jazz vocals is a plus 

    • Excellent stage presence

    • Ability to create an over-the-top pantomime villain

BERYL​ (DAME)

  1. Playing Age: Adult 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting, Singing & Movement

  3. The dominant of the two Ugly Sisters. Bossy, vain and wonderfully spiteful, Beryl believes she deserves nothing less than a royal wedding. A big comic character with exaggerated confidence and plenty of opportunities for physical comedy.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Excellent comic performer

    • Strong character actor

    • We are not looking for a strong singer and the one song she has can be sung badly 

    • Comfortable with movement and very strong audience interaction

    • Ability to work closely with another performer

CHERYL​ (DAME)

  1. Playing Age: Adult 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting, Singing & Movement

  3. The younger Ugly Sister. Fiercely competitive with Beryl and desperate to outshine her sibling, Cheryl's schemes rarely go to plan. A flamboyant comic role requiring excellent timing and strong chemistry with Beryl.

  4. We're looking for:

    • Excellent comic performer

    • Strong character actor

    • We are not looking for a strong singer and the one song she has can be sung badly 

    • Comfortable with movement and very strong audience interaction

    • Ability to work closely with another performer

MOUSE​

  1. Playing Age: Child or young performer 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting & Movement

  3. A silent but memorable character. This is a wonderful opportunity for a talented young performer with strong physical theatre skills, expressive movement and plenty of personality.

MAJOR DOMO​

  1. Playing Age: Any

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting 

  3. A small but memorable cameo role. The Major Domo oversees the royal household with dignity and authority, often becoming the straight character amidst the surrounding chaos.

SECURITY GUARD​

  1. Playing Age: Child 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting 

  3. A fun cameo role for a confident young performer with good comic timing and stage presence.

THE BEAR

  1. Playing Age: Any

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting & Movement

  3. A hilarious featured role requiring confidence in physical comedy and movement. No spoken dialogue is necessary, but plenty of character and energy are essential.

ENSEMBLE: CHORUS​

  1. Playing Age: 16+ 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting and/or Singing and/or Dance

  3. Our ensemble forms the heart of the production, playing a range of roles. Remember these roles often have more stage time then our leads. 

  4. We're looking for enthusiastic performers who enjoy working as part of a team and are willing to embrace the fun and fast-paced nature of pantomime.

ENSEMBLE: CHORUS CHILDREN​

  1. Playing Age: Children 

  2. Performance Requirements: Acting and/or Singing and/or Dance

  3. No previous stage experience is necessary—just enthusiasm, confidence and a willingness to learn!

What is a British pantomime?

If you've never performed in a British pantomime before, don't worry—you are not alone!

​

A pantomime is a unique style of family theatre, traditionally performed during the festive season. It combines a classic fairy tale with comedy, music, dance, audience participation and plenty of larger-than-life characters. It is fast-paced, energetic and, above all, great fun.

​

Unlike traditional theatre, pantomime encourages performers to interact directly with the audience. Expect cheers for the heroes, boos for the villains, silly jokes, visual comedy, slapstick, and moments where the audience becomes part of the action.

​

Our production of Cinderella will stay true to the traditions of British pantomime while presenting a modern, high-quality theatrical experience. We are looking for performers who are prepared to fully embrace the style, commit to bold character choices and enjoy entertaining audiences of all ages.

​

You do not need previous pantomime experience. If you have experience in theatre, musicals, dance, singing or simply enjoy performing, we encourage you to audition. Enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to have fun are just as important as experience.

Wat is een Britse pantomime?

Heb je nog nooit in een Britse pantomime gespeeld? Geen probleem – veel mensen in Vlaanderen maken er voor het eerst kennis mee!

Een Britse pantomime is een unieke vorm van familietheater die traditioneel tijdens de eindejaarsperiode wordt opgevoerd. Het combineert een klassiek sprookje met humor, muziek, dans, publieksinteractie en kleurrijke, uitbundige personages. Het tempo ligt hoog, de sfeer is speels en het belangrijkste doel is om het publiek een fantastische tijd te bezorgen.

​

In tegenstelling tot traditioneel theater wordt het publiek actief betrokken bij de voorstelling. Verwacht luid applaus voor de helden, boegeroep voor de slechteriken, grappige woordspelingen, fysieke komedie, slapstick en momenten waarop het publiek echt deel uitmaakt van het verhaal.

Onze productie van Cinderella blijft trouw aan de tradities van de Britse pantomime, maar brengt deze in een eigentijdse, kwalitatieve theaterproductie. We zoeken performers die zich volledig willen smijten, grote personages durven neerzetten en het publiek van jong tot oud willen entertainen.

​

Je hebt geen ervaring met pantomime nodig om auditie te doen. Ervaring in toneel, musical, zang of dans is uiteraard mooi meegenomen, maar enthousiasme, inzet en plezier maken zijn minstens even belangrijk.
